Analysis
Bridging Political Engagement and Social Media Trends

The project required a delicate balance between political messaging and social media appeal. Extensive research was conducted on existing AR filters, ranging from aesthetic to promotional uses, including politically-oriented examples. Solution
Dual-Approach AR Filters for Voter Engagement

Two distinct AR filters were developed to cater to different user engagement styles:

  1. "I Voted" Aesthetic Filter: Designed for Instagram, this filter adopted an 'activist' tone with friendly, non-threatening language. It featured VNA-branded banners and images in the background, directly calling for action while maintaining visual appeal.
  2. Eco-Anxiety Quiz Filter: Developed for both Instagram and TikTok, this interactive filter engaged users with questions about their relationship with eco-anxiety. It culminated in an encouraging message to take action by voting, addressing Gen-Z's openness to discussing wellbeing topics.

The development process involved rapid ideation, design, and implementation using Spark AR Studio for Instagram and Effect House for TikTok. Collaboration with AWE Studio was crucial for direction, asset preparation, and prototype testing.

Final Consideration

This project demonstrated the potential of AR technology in political engagement, particularly for younger audiences. The tight timeline necessitated agile development and cross-platform expertise, pushing the boundaries of AR filter capabilities, especially in creating a randomized quiz format.

While specific campaign results were not shared, the filters were utilized by several sustainability-focused influencers, indicating successful integration into the broader campaign strategy. The project highlighted the importance of balancing aesthetic appeal with meaningful content in digital political outreach.

Key insights gained include the need for deep technical knowledge of AR platforms to realize ambitious concepts, and the value of interdisciplinary collaboration in creating effective digital campaign tools. This experience has significantly enhanced our capabilities in leveraging AR for social and political engagement.
